I Would Never Say That is the fifth episode in the first season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Synopsis[]
Camille invites the women to New York for the premiere of Kelsey Grammer’s Broadway musical, but things are off to a very rough start. Adrienne receives some bad news from home and Kyle is still worried about the fallout from her and Camille’s Vegas show down. But in true Beverly Hills style, the women seem to pull themselves together and put the past behind them – that is until they all sit down together for dinner and the claws come out once again.
Plot[]
The episode begins with Lisa Vanderpump; who is up early alongside her Permanent HouseGuest, Cedric. They have a busy day ahead as they’re headed to the flower market to pick up some flowers and sort the flower arrangement at Lisa’s Restaurant, Villa Blanca. In a confessional, Lisa discusses how Cedric is an employee of hers but he is also seen as family and it is therefore to find that dividing line between a professional relationship and a personal one. She notes how he is going to want to start a family of his own and become his own "Housewife" soon but they’re happy with how things are at the moment. This is all said as Lisa is shown to mother Cedric a bit and question why he wants so many sugars in his morning caffeine. Cedric, also in a confessional, explains how he adopted the Vanderpump-Todds as his family since he doesn’t have one of his own and that is that - whether they like it or not! After picking up the flowers at the flower market and having arrived at Villa Blanca, Lisa describes herself as someone who likes to keep herself busy and eating lunch with girlfriends and shopping goes only so far with her, she can’t do it all the time. She gushes over how well Cedric knows her daily tasks and how to oversee Villa Blanca and this brings her comfort as she can always leave him in charge since she can’t be there everyday.
Elsewhere, Camille Grammer is chatting with her good friend, Nick. She grills him on why he didn’t join her and her family/friends in Hawaii since they missed him. They discuss how much they’re looking forward to their upcoming to New York City to see Kelsey Grammer’s new play. Nick asks if it was alright for him to have dropped by Camille and the rest of the 'Housewives' and their Husbands' trip to Las Vegas which she reassures him that it definitely was. He questions their reactions and she insists that they were surprised but all liked him. Ahead of Camille having invited all of the other 'Housewives' to see Kelsey on stage, Nick and Camille chat about Camille’s state of friendship with the other women. She mentions her little "tiff" with Kyle Richards and describes how Kyle interrogated her and questioned why Camille would be wanted in Hawaii without the presence of her Husband. While Camille feels uneasy about what happened, she is prepared to let it all pan out in New York City - when she is next set to see her since they’ve not seen each other since they awkward exchange.
In preparation for this New York City trip, Kyle heads over to Taylor Armstrong’s; to pick her up for some dress shopping. Kyle is introduced to their new dog, Snowball; which Taylor knew nothing about until Russell surprised their Daughter at her birthday party. Kyle also meets Kennedy for the first time and comments on her adorable too-too. Kyle remarks how a lot of white dogs have the cute name of Snowball and Taylor laughs but insists that her entire life now revolves around the pet and that is the exact reason why she and Russell had agreed not to get a pet. As they head outside, Kyle admits that she is in need of retail therapy after the drama that she had, had recently with Camille while Taylor notes how guilty she feels leaving her Daughter when she is not at school. Kyle tries to quash her feelings by saying how it is good for Kennedy to bond with her Dad (which Taylor agrees but still has anxiety over what Kennedy with have for lunch; since her Dad’s cooking skills are not great!). They enter a store that Kyle’s Fashion Designer owns, House of Petro Zillia. Kyle introduces Taylor to the owner, Nony. Kyle admits that she only enlists the help of Nony for special occasions; yet in Beverly Hills, most women have fashion designers on speed dial, 24/7. They try on dresses and outfits which makes Kyle feel jokingly jealous since Taylor is a "size triple zero" while she is a "size two or four" which she remarks as big for Beverly Hills standards.
Also in preparation for New York City, Adrienne Maloof and Kim Richards are in town shopping for the upcoming trip. They both admit that they’re sick of wearing the colour black (which Adrienne feels that she always wear when in New York!). They discuss about how they’re both last-minute packers. Kim remarks on how she is the opposite to her Sister, Kyle, who has a load of good friends. She is very selective with the people that she considers a friend. She warms to Adrienne considering she finds her to be very much a family woman, which Kim identifies with, so feels that they’re building a strong friendship. As they’re getting into the outfit shopping, Adrienne receives a sad phone call which is from her Brother that informs her that her Mother’s Brother (Adrienne’s Uncle) has just suddenly passed away. Kim sees that Adrienne is in a lot of pain due to this news which Adrienne puts down to the worry that she has for her Mother; who will be devastated. Kim warmly embraces Adrienne who has to get back home quickly and abandon the clothing shopping.
Camille has found out about Adrienne’s sad news and receives a phone call from Adrienne where the latter confirms that she is no longer going to be attending the New York trip due to this passing. Adrienne apologizes for not being able to go to New York and wishes them all a fabulous time. Camille graciously takes the news, is understanding of Adrienne’s situation and is equally sad for her but just prays nothing else goes wrong ahead of this trip. Camille is having dinner with Nick (her Good Friend), Tricia (Nick’s Wife), Scott (her Assistant) and Nicole (her House Manager); who all cheers to a successful trip to the City.
Lisa comes round to Kyle’s home as Lisa has enlisted the help of a hypnotherapist to try and help cure Kyle’s phobia of flying. When they’ve travelled together in the past and during their recent trips to Las Vegas, Kyle has been clinging on for dear life (been a nervous wreck) during the flights and Lisa is hoping this will at least calm Kyle’s fear since it’ll give her a more restful flight; since she is usually next to Kyle on airplanes! Kyle admits that she does not like being out of control on airplanes and she is ready to try and seek help for this fear. The hypnotherapist arrives and an ECG (electrocardiography) is placed on Kyle’s forehead which shows many brain waves full of emotions as they discuss the prospect of flying. Lisa admits that the ECG being bought out scares her since she didn’t invite someone to Kyle’s house to electrocute her good friend. The hypnotherapist works his magic and Kyle admits to feeling a little apprehensive ahead of the experience yet was practically fully transfixed when the hypnotherapist performed his work. She felt out of it which means she feels it has worked and thought it would be like "the movies" when it came to characters being hypnotized and she feels like this was pretty much that. Both Kyle and the hypnotherapist are optimistic that this treatment is going to work and be of benefit when Lisa and Kyle board the airplane to New York. Lisa feels Kyle really wanted this treatment to work and found the experience more intense than she did.
Already in New York. Camille and her kids (Mason and Jude), her best friend (D.D.) and some of her staff (her "Entourage") arrive to Camille and Kelsey’s new apartment. The apartment has three bedrooms and is 3,500 square feet which Camille feels is very small compared to what she is used to in Los Angeles and is housing many - her, Kelsey, the kids, the staff and the nannies. While she finds it to be a cool pad, she is unsure how long she can spend in such a confined space. As Kelsey arrives home from work, everyone is reunited with Kelsey. Camille admits that the hardest part of Kelsey being away from home is the fact that the kids miss him. The kids have a play-fight with their Dad and enjoy his company; as does Camille. Kelsey, in a confessional, admits that being married for thirteen years is not easy and it’d be ridiculous to claim it was. Camille, in a confessional, admits that she feels Kelsey is in a honeymoon phase and she’ll give it a year before she thinks he’ll change his mind about wanting to settle in New York.
Back in Beverly Hills, four of the 'Housewives' arrive at the airport. With Adrienne staying back home and Camille already in New York, Kim, Kyle, Lisa and Taylor are the only four who are heading together to New York. Taylor admits that she feels worried about how Adrienne is coping and misses going away with her. Lisa describes how excited that she is for the trip and the only thing on Kyle’s mind is has the hypnotherapy worked. She describes how she usually nervously counts down the hours until her flight but has been approaching this one with a little more optimism.
Ahead of the other women arriving in New York City, Camille is having her nails done and invites her Mother, Maureen, to sit with her while she has this done. She is super busy and has been traveling between three different time zones and decides the only way to fit in seeing her Mother is while she is having her nails done (which she comments how speedy the New York nail technicians are in comparison to the slow Los Angeles ones). Maureen lives in New Jersey so it is convenient now being more in New York City (the neighboring state) since she can then see more of her Mother; whom she is very close with. Camille checks in with her Mom to see how she is doing as it has been two months now since Maureen was diagnosed with cancer. Kelsey found a doctor that is now treating Maureen with topical chemotherapy and this treatment seems to be going well so far. Worried about her Mom having cancer, Camille ran tests to check herself since the disease is genetic yet while some results came back positive, nothing has been picked up as negative and in need of Camille to have treatment. Camille discusses her busy schedule from the work to the kids to the health to the travel and on top of all this, being without her Husband. Camille, does however, gush over having her staff to fill the void and such a close relationship with her Mom. They both agree that all you need in life is positivity and to surround yourself with people who echo this positivity alike.
Back at the Beverly Hills airport, Kim guesses that Camille has flown to New York without them since she is upset about what happened between her and Kyle. Lisa and Kyle disagree and think she went ahead of them to spend some time with Kelsey. Taylor and Kim are sat next to Kyle and Lisa and they’re having two separate conversations about the same thing - the falling out between Kyle and Camille. Taylor thinks the conversation has been blown out of proportion and the two girls just need to work things out. Kim think that Camille just misinterpreted what Kyle said. Kyle admits that she does not want this drama to ruin the weekend or to be hanging over her and she therefore will address the elephant in the room upon touching down in New York. Lisa relays her conversation with Camille to Kyle about Camille’s version of events and maintains her defense for Kyle but questions why Camille would have heard something so different to how Kyle is relaying the conversation. Kyle relays the conversation and snaps slightly at Lisa for interrupting her and asking questions that Kyle can’t answer on behalf of Camille. Kyle says that she asked Camille: "Are you going to Hawaii with Kelsey?". Camille replied with a no. Kyle admits that she shared her surprise with Camille since she felt it was brave that Camille would be holidaying with her kids and without a Husband and that is where Camille has taken offense but also believes that Kyle said: "Why would anyone be interested in you in Hawaii without Kelsey there?". Since Kyle’s Husband, Mauricio, does business with Camille and Kelsey and some of their friends, she worries that her argument with Camille could have an impact on Mauricio’s clientele and lead to a financial decrease. Therefore, she is keen to smooth things over with Camille and start afresh. Kyle insists that she wants to have fun and wonders why Camille is deflecting. Lisa snappingly tells Kyle that she and Camille need to work it out since it is very petty; she hypothesizes that letting these small things roll will just turn into an explosion later on. Kim references to Taylor how insecurity can sometimes be a problem between friends (references how one of her friends told her when she young that being her friend made her insecure since it takes a certain friend to be friends with a celebrity who is constantly being placed in front of the paparazzi). As the ladies board the plane, Kyle and Kim are taken to the cockpit which is done to try and calm Kyle ahead of flying; which she feels that the hypnotherapist has really worked his magic as she feels a sense of calm that she hasn’t before when being on an airplane.
The 'HouseHusbands' are out to dinner (Ken, Mauricio, Paul and Russell). Ken poses the question about whether the men miss their wives. While the other men laugh off the question, Ken says that he feels his right arm has been cut off. Being married twenty-eight years, Ken says that he has been married longer than the other three men’s marriages put together. When asked his secret to a happy marriage, he says not to go to sleep after having an argument and angry with your Wife. Russell says that he shall adopt this advice. Mauricio says that as a guy, you’d rather be happy than right and jokes about stifling any grief that you may have with your Wife. He also says that any female conversation is usually juicier and more interesting than males' which Paul disagrees with and thinks girls should be left to gossip and guys have a different type of conversation. They wonder what their wives are up to in New York.
As the four ladies who have just flown from Beverly Hills touch down in New York, they get straight into a limousine to meet Camille. Kyle says that she felt so much calmer on the flight and puts it all down to be hypnotized. They have champagne in their hands and cheers to a successful trip - Kyle also adds that she might need to mend a friendship top. They meet up with Camille at the hotel they’re staying in, Kyle and Camille greet each other like normal which is reassuring to the other girls. They’re all introduced to their rooms and are all pleased. In Taylor’s suite, as the girls are all having a few drinks, Kyle pulls Camille to the side and endeavors to clear up any miscommunication that they’re recently had. This attempt goes smoothly…or at least for a small period of time. Kyle relays how she felt the Spring Break chat went and Camille says that she heard Kyle say: "Why would anyone be interested in seeing you in Hawaii without Kelsey there?". Kyle says that Camille only heard that since Kyle has never thought that and would therefore never say it. Kyle admits that she does not want to have bad feelings with anyone since she finds it torturous and it eats her up; Camille also says how she is keen to always squash any controversy and smooth things over. Since Camille and Kyle are occupying one room in Taylor’s suite, Lisa and Kim listen into the conversation and are keeping their fingers crossed that this chat does go to plan. Kim mentions how Kyle may not like confrontation but will do so, if necessary. Kyle says that she feels she always does the reaching out in their friendship and decided not to bombard Camille after their awkward moment, which Camille appreciates and says she understands. Camille explains that she never calls since she is very shy which Kyle acknowledges but tells Camille that there is no need to be shy or "insecure". Camille immediately denies feeling any sense of insecurity but does say how she feels much of an outsider in this new group of girls. Kyle says that feels everyone in the group adores Camille and they decide to hug it out and move on.
Lisa, Kim and Kyle go to their rooms to freshen up while Taylor and Camille send Adrienne a text to wish her well and say that they miss her. Twenty minutes later, the 'Housewives' meet in the lobby and things escalate a whole lot further. As the ladies are seated at the table, Camille brings up about how Kyle put words in Camille’s mouth and said that she was "insecure". Kyle is confused since she felt that they had just squashed their issues and questions Camille’s motive of re-hashing this. Lisa is confused as to why everything was "hunky dory" when they left Taylor’s suite twenty minutes earlier and Camille has now flipped one-hundred-and-eighty degrees. Kyle questions if Camille has an identical twin sister that she didn’t know about since she felt that they had fixed it but has suddenly become quite rude. Camille admits that she did some thinking and wants to be open and honest with Kyle, she did not like the dig. Kyle says that Camille must be insecure since if someone thought that Kyle was insecure, she would shrug it off since she knows she isn’t, yet clearly Camille is paranoid about being insecure and is therefore uncomfortable with what Kyle said. Camille thinks Kyle is insincere and Kyle raises her voice and imitates Camille’s "sweet voice". Camille thinks that Kyle likes to throw digs at her and she is above petty drama with Kyle. Kyle starts saying that she thinks Camille needs to seek help immediately (and get a therapist). Camille raises how she felt interrogated during their chat about Spring Break and Kyle agrees not to ask Kyle anymore questions since she fears she’ll twist things and take what she has said out of context. Kyle continuously denies the question that Camille maintains Kyle asked about people’s interest in Camille without her Husband. Kyle says that Camille clearly thinks that about herself what she claims Kyle asked her and insists she would not ask a question to someone that she hasn’t even asked herself or thought of. Kyle asks Camille to keep her story straight; which Kim privately admits not seeing Kyle often this mad. Kyle calls Camille paranoid and delusional after Camille asks why Kyle interrogated her since they do not know each other that well. Camille reckons Kyle is desperately trying to "cover her a**" since she is losing her cool and raising her voice. She feels that she is in control and is therefore winning this fight. Taylor, privately, describes feeling worried that feelings are only getting hurt and nothing is getting accomplished during this argument. As Camille presses Kyle as to why she will not own up to anything, Kyle grows increasingly frustrated since she is not attacking Camille but merely defending herself. Kyle goes onto calling Camille a "f***ing liar" which shocks the table - not least Camille.
