Is It Hunting Season, Yet? is the second episode in the first season and the second episode ever produced of The Real Housewives of Orange County. It premiered on March 28, 2006 , to an audience of N/A million live viewers.

Synopsis[]

On Bravotv.com: "Rabbits have overrun the gated Orange County community, and Jeana's son Shane has gained the reputation as the official "rabbit hunter." Jeana decides it's the perfect time to take her kids on a vacation to Mexico, where Shane finds romance. Kimberly is feeling neighborhood pressure to upgrade her car, and decides to go shopping for something more pricey and suitable for the prying eyes of the Orange County community. Meanwhile, Jo's fiance Slade plans a high-powered business meeting with a potential client, Brent, which makes Jo miss her career. He plots a "chance encounter" with Brent in their neighborhood. Jo continues her quest to accept her life of leisure by taking a tennis lesson with Kimberly. Vicki takes Briana and a group of cheerleaders on a cruise, where Vicki's wild side emerges. Upon their return, Vicki worries about money, argues with Michael about getting a job, and fears that her employee Lauri isn't going to work out. Lauri's troubles continue to mount. Her son, Josh, gets into big trouble at school and gets arrested. Lauri has to break the news to her youngest daughter, Sophie. Lauri looks forward to her work convention with Vicki, unaware that Vicki is contemplating firing her."[1]

Summary[]

Coto de Caza is infested with wild rabbits. Jeana explains that neighborhood watch had hunted coyotes out of the area years prior and now without their predators, rabbits run wild. Shane hunts rabbits with pallet guns with his friend. They first visit Vicki's, they did not kill any rabbits successfully.

Slade goes cycling. He weighs tremendous importance in his appearance as a respectable member in the community. Jo calls Kim and they make tennis plans.

Uncle Ritchie visits the Keoughs to go to Cabos with them. Jeana thinks he's a father figure to the kids as Matt is away often. Kara views Ritchie more as a big brother. Kara shows Ritchies her new BMW. The Keoughs have a BBQ before leaving for Cabos. Shane doesn't want a girlfriend. Jeana and Kara berate Shane for claiming he's going to get "wasted" in Mexico.

Vicki plans a Mexican cruise trip for Briana and her cheerleading squad. Meanwhile, Lauri holds down the fort at Vicki's insurance company with Ashley helping out. Vicki and Briana have a blast on the cruise.

Josh's principal calls Lauri, Josh is in juvenile hall. A teacher thought they see Josh with drugs, and with Josh's previous record law enforcement is contacted. Ashley is reluctant to handle the insurance company by herself but the situation requires Lauri's immediate attention. Lauri reminisces her life pre-divorce, and the effects it has on her children. Lauri explains to Sophia about Josh's extended absence. Lauri recalls her intense previous relationship that has lasting effects on Josh. Ashley was from another relationship and on good terms with her biological father while Sophia is too young to understand, so Josh is the one hit hardest from the separation. Lauri recalls an incident where Josh passed out drunk and had to be taken to the hospital. Counseling sessions were had, Josh states he was going through a hard time and was expelled from fighting in junior high. Lauri enrolled Josh in rehab, however, Josh relapsed. Lauri visits Josh at Juvenile Hall, with Sophia's letter to him. Lauri is under a lot of stress and tries to focus on the positive. Lauri goes out with her friend to dinner to decompress. They express frustration in the difficulty of their current dating life.

Kimberly and Scott buy a new Lexus SUV, under the pressure of being surrounded by luxury cars in Coto.

Slade meets with a potential client, but it did not go well. Slade vents to Jo about the meeting over dinner. Slade conjures a plan to meet with this valuable client in the wild.

Vicki returns from her vacation, and is under stress as Donn is out of work and Michael and Briana are college age. Vicki discusses Michael's bad grades in college with him, and declares he must get a job, as he will not be receiving an allowance for the summer. Donn is concerned that Michael does not have a job, Donn may have a job prospect in Sacramento, but wishes to stay in Orange County without relocating the family.

The Keoughs arrive in Cabo. The family misses Matt, who's often unable to make it to vacation. Shane and Colton go ATV'ing. Shane states there's friendly competition between them as they are in the same sport. Shane's a bit mean to Colton but plays it off as tough love, Colton states in his confessional that he speaks fast so Shane can't cut him off. Colton beats Shane by 5 seconds in the ATV race, which puts Shane in a bad mood.

Jo and Kim play tennis and they enjoy each other's company.

Shane and Uncle Ritchie go out to party at night in Cabo. Uncle Ritchie wants to get Shane drunk and talk to girls. They talk to a group of ladies, Shane dances and makes out with one of them.

Vicki and Lauri talk about an upcoming insurance convention. Vicki thinks Lauri is not ambitious enough, and is frustrated. Lauri is oblivious and appreciates her assumed work schedule flexibility granted by Vicki.
