Luann de Lesseps is a former main and recurring cast member on The Real Housewives of New York City. In addition to this, she has appeared as an "All Star" during the first and fourth seasons of The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip and appeared in her own spin-off series, alongside Sonja Morgan, titled: Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake.
Casting[]
de Lesseps made up one of the five original main cast members in the first season of The Real Housewives of New York City. She starred as a 'Housewife' until the conclusion of the fifth season.
As the sixth season’s promotional photo was released, de Lesseps’ absence was immediately noticed. de Lesseps had been demoted to a 'Friend of the Housewives' and was to star in a recurring capacity. Despite this, she appeared in nineteen of the twenty-three episodes. Since she missed the first three episodes of the season, it was assumed that de Lesseps had been stuck in the middle of contract negotiations as cameras had begun rolling which meant that she didn’t film from the beginning of the season; thus, being absent during the first few episodes of the season. Despite this, de Lesseps insisted that she had requested a reduced role on the show since she had "other things going on personally and professionally".
After one season in a recurring capacity, de Lesseps was promoted back to a 'Housewife' role in the show’s seventh season and remained in a main capacity all the way up until the conclusion of the thirteenth season. The entire cast was cut between de Lesseps' last season and the fourteenth season due to declining ratings and racism controversies surrounding the cast members of the show - de Lesseps included. Six new 'Housewives' were confirmed for the fourteenth season which de Lesseps did not appear in.
de Lesseps has appeared as an "All Star" in the first and fourth seasons of The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip. The first as an "All Star" alongside co-star, Ramona Singer, representing the New York City installment of The Real Housewives franchise while holidaying with five other 'Housewives' from three other American installments. During the fourth season, the theme was "New York City: Legacy"; bringing back old main cast members from the original thirteen seasons of the main show ahead of the entire cast overhaul and reboot.
In addition to this and post her role on the main show, a new spin-off series, titled: Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake, was commissioned and starred de Lesseps and former co-star, Sonja Morgan, heading to Benton, Illinois, to "spruce up the town". After the COVID-19 pandemic, the Benton City Council asks the pair to help with tasks that will revitalize Benton, such as: constructing a new playground, hosting a variety show and upgrading an animal shelter. This series has only produced one season and it is unknown whether the show will continue.
