Mary Cosby is a current main cast member and former recurring cast member on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
Casting[]
Cosby made up one of the six main cast members on the first season of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City and continued as a 'Housewife' for the show’s second season but did not attend the Season’s Reunion Special; she took a break from the show and Utah as she found all of the fights and accusations of her leading a cult too much which led her to drive to her Indiana home and stay there for awhile, and was therefore fired from the show.
However, despite choosing to skip a Reunion special and wanting to distance herself from the “toxicity” and “heal”, she decided to return to the series in the fourth season but only in a recurring capacity as a 'Friend of the Housewives'. She was then re-upgraded to a 'Housewife' for the show’s upcoming fifth season; which premieres on September 18, 2024.

Season 1[]
With a penchant for God, couture and only the finest champagne, Mary Cosby is a Pentecostal First Lady who inherited her family's empire of churches, restaurants and more. The caveat in her taking over the family business was that she marry her late Grandmother’s second Husband, Robert Cosby Sr. They have since been married for twenty years and have one teenage son together. Small but mighty and always dressed to the nines, her unconventional past has made her guarded and she quickly finds herself on shaky ground with some of the ladies.

Due to the pandemic, Mary's life has changed drastically, she has been forced to close the doors to her church and has started a faith-based podcast to fill the void. Friendships are tested when rumors about Mary become a topic of conversation after Lisa's friend reveals some unsettling allegations.
Season 4[]
Cosby is famously known for having a strong sense of smell having a feud with former 'Housewife', Jen Shah, after the former told the latter she smelled like a hospital. Fans may remember Shah took offense to this as she had been visiting a family member that was gravely ill. In the new season, Cosby’s sense of smell comes back pointing out on the trialer that "somebody farted". Cosby’s friendship with Meredith is as strong as ever, but she struggles to find her footing with the other ladies as she navigates old wounds and potential new friendships within the group.
Season 5[]
She is back full time with her fiery remarks and 2003 Dom Perignon. Mary re-immerses herself in the group, making amends with Whitney and Heather after her name calling, and a deep and unexpected friendship develops with Angie. Although she has a new ally and confidant, Mary and Meredith’s longstanding friendship is on thin ice as they struggle to see eye-to-eye.

The ladies rode through mud in mud covered ATV to their destination. All four ladies ride down the zipline at the same time. Mary loves ziplining apparently. The ladies set up a tailgate, which confuses Mary, who's never been to a tailgate before.
Mary states she saw Heather's daughter Georgia, but merely states that "the wind blew us (them) together" when inquired by the ladies. Heather explains about the dance class. Britani and Lisa are intrigued by this elusive hip hop dance class attended by Mary Cosby. Mary brings up that Angie was at the class, Lisa states she has not seen Angie since Milwaukee. Lisa expresses her resentment toward Angie regarding calling her a bad mother. Britani agrees with Lisa. Mary doesn't understand why Lisa didn't just call Angie up and hash it out but instead talks to Heather. Mary feels Heather "champions" Lisa despite knowing Angie since high school. Heather states she is on Lisa's side. Mary thinks Heather stirs the pot and "hide her hands". Heather is sad and thinks her having confidence and success translated to her being "mean". Mary thinks Heather has received it well and she sees glimpses of Heather she used to know. Mary states "if you're not going to listen to me, then get out of my house". Which Meredith takes immediately as she stands up for departure. Mary is shocked as Meredith is twisting it as Mary is kicking her out. Meredith states she's "attacked" by the group and is hurt by Mary. An emotional Meredith storms out. Meredith waits for Mary, who is 40 minutes late in Troop Salt Lake City. Meredith invited Mary to air out their grievances from Mary's brunch. Meredith Facetimes her son Brooks and daughter Chloe to vent about Mary. They think something's going on with Mary due to her behavior. Meredith checks in with Mary, they bicker immediately with Meredith feeling she's no longer "welcomed" at Mary's house. Meredith thinks Mary didn't back her up in her argument with Angie. Mary thinks Meredith had "severed our (their) friendship", and Meredith perpetuates herself as the "victim". Meredith brings up Mary's tardiness, Mary storms off. Meredith thinks Mary used her, Mary thinks their friendship is not as strong as Meredith does not know what's going on in her personal life with Robert Jr.. Mary rants to Angie about her argument with Meredith at the gallery on the way to Camp Day. Angie points out Meredith was so upset she had to leave but she wasn't upset enough to forget Mary's parting gift. Meredith and Mary argue, Mary clarifies she was telling both Angie and Meredith to be quiet, and they can leave if they don't listen to her, flashback supports Mary. Angie points out Meredith taking the parting gift with her, Meredith states she'll happily return it. At Meredith's Shabot, Lisa thinks Mary "crossed a line", and doesn't like the way Mary treats Meredith. Meredith is befuddled regarding her friendship with Mary. She thinks there's a "bigger problem" at play in Mary's personal life.
Mary, who puts importance on religion, arrives to support Meredith at her Bat Mitzvah despite their feud in Mazel, Meredith, although in the middle of ceremony and late. Mary's silhouette of attempting to peek through the curtain can be seen by the ladies. Mary eventually makes it inside during Meredith's emotional speech. After the ceremony, Meredith and Mary apologize to each other and they move forward.

Angie states their friendship began when she told Mary she had lipstick on her teeth at the reunion, they became close after Mary invited her to Kathy Hilton's Christmas Party. Angie picks Mary up for hip hop dance class in Whitney Drew and Her Clues. They meet up with Heather's daughter Georgia at class. After class, they talk about Angies's fight with Lisa. Angie is still hurt from Lisa bringing up her daughter during the argument. Angie states Lisa and her "were like sisters", they talked "multiple times a day" and now they don't talk at all. Angie thinks Heather is siding with Lisa, and Heather thinks Angie's the one who's pulling away from Lisa.

Mary proceeds with the blessing, making the attendees hold the hand of someone they love, defaulting to Whitney and Lisa holding each other's hands. Angie, who did not notice Mary sitting in her living room, jumps when Mary greets her with "peekaboo". They work together to figure out the mechanism of opening a bottle of champagne. Mary opens up and confesses to Angie about what's been going on with her son Robert Jr.. Angie consoles a crying Mary. Mary reveals she tried to get pregnant for 4 years before finally achieving it with Robert Jr.. Mary questions whether had she gone wrong with Robert, and feels "responsible". Angie comforts Mary, reassuring her she is not to blame. Addiction is a disease that can happen to anyone, Angie draws parallel with her mother, whom she lost to alcoholism at a young age. Mary feels alone that she doesn't have a mother or grandmother to phone in for help, but she is determined to do whatever it takes to help her son. Mary is not sure about attending the Puerto Vallarta trip. Mary and Angie pinky promise to keep their conversation in confidence. Mary visits Angie upon her arrival in Puerto Vallarta in La VIDA Loca, they are overjoyed to see each other. Angie is Mary's person at the moment. Mary and Angie share a tender moment in Smile, You're Being Recorded while getting ready for dinner as only Angie knows the hardship Mary is going through with Robert Jr..

Britani defends Lisa from her argument with Whitney in When All Is Said and Done, Mary brings up Britani recording the ladies. They argue and Britani accuses Mary of "recording out of the window". Britani states she doesn't have "any friends here" and storms off. Mary is indifferent with her leaving. Angie, Heather, and Lisa follow her. Mary is offended that Angie chased after Britani right after Britani accused Mary of recording.
Mary ignores Angie when she offers her to try her dinner, Mary tells Angie she did not like her running after Britani. Angie apologizes to Mary, tells Mary that she loves her and Mary "changed my (her) life". In an emotional moment, both Mary and Angie cry and make up. Mary reveals she was "abandoned" by her parents, her father told her mother he didn't like Mary when he left them when Mary was 6. Mary was cut off by her mother, who she considered was her best friend. The ladies sympathize with Mary, Angie affirms Mary that she's not abandoning her. Mary considers Angie as family.

Leading to Mary and Bronwyn taking offense, stating they don't wear costumes, but fashion. Mary brings up her fashion archive and stating her passion to collect due to growing up with 5 siblings. Britani used the wrong choice of word with "hoard", Mary takes further offense. Britani attempts to diffuse the situation and says she was also poor when she was young, Mary responds with she was not poor. Britani brings up the experience of "hiding rolls in her purse" to bring home, to Mary's astonishment. Britani thinks Mary would understand if she grew up poor, which leads to Mary abruptly leaving the conversation. Mary demands to be switched from sitting next to Britani when sitting down for dinner.
Mary tells her son her conflict with Britani at Lisa's party Walking a Tightrope. Later on at Heather's Rope Walking event, Britani announces that Jared officially asked her to be his girlfriend after buying matching jewelry at Louis Vuitton. They have also made it Instagram official, Bronwyn contradicts by mentioning the Instagram post was Jarod calling Britani his "best friend" and it's a picture of them at Costco. The ladies look at the post with Lisa stating that is not an post that makes it official. Mary states she's trying to figure out why "we care", they begin arguing and Lisa's dinner is brought up, especially Britani's "poor" comment. Mary says she does not care to get to know Britani and Britani thinks Mary is rude. Heather backs Britani by saying she has a lot going on with her ex and children. Lisa and Whitney inquires Britani and she reveals her immediate daughter does not talk to her, alludes to more but keeping it personal. Mary interjects rudely questioning Britani on sharing her romantic life but leaving out details, Bronwyn agrees with Mary. Mary states "if you're kind, why can't you make amends with your children", leading to immediate escalation of the argument. Mary explains in her confessional that Britani remind her of her mom who also prioritized her husband before her kids.

Angie notices Britani is recording the ladies' conversation and calls her out in Smile, You're Being Recorded. Britani attempts to explain it as recording a video for her daughter Olivia, who got "100 % on her math test". Footage shows Britani has been recording for 2 minutes. Meredith asks to see the video, Britani obliges which plays the audio of the ladies' fight. All the ladies drop their differences and form an united front againt Britani. Britani had recorded 3 videos, and changed her story to an "accident". Britani denies sending the videos to other people, Bronwyn questions her motivation, Heather wonders if Britani had recorded other times. Heather states the ladies are "traumatized" from Monica, especially on the privacy front. Everyone let Britani have it. Britani changes her story for the third time, stating she's "saving them (videos) for later". The ladies think Britani is sending the videos to bloggers. Angie encourages Britani to take accountability and apologize. Heather feels "ashamed" and "embarrassed" for introducing Britani to the group and defending her. Meredith in particular lets Britani have it, Lisa will "never trust" Britani again.

Britani runs off crying as the ladies arrive at their destination. Angie thinks the ladies had gone too far, Whitney agrees and goes to check on Britani. Britani feels that she has broken everyone's trust, Whitney tries to get to the bottom of her motivation. In her confessional, Britani is adamant about not recording the conversation, footage shows she had recorded the back of the seat for 24 seconds. Britani comes up with more excuses with the producer and Whitney. Britani attempts to prove her innocence by showing her deleted's, but Whitney states those can be deleted as well. Whitney feels bad for Britani but doesn't buy her stories.
No one wants to ride with Britani on the ATV, Heather ends up with her. The ladies made it to their waterfall destination across a suspended bridge that seemed "mucho dangerous". Whitney and Britani jump into the water from a rock. The ladies remain dubious of Britani.

The ladies have lunch and circle back to Britani, Britani changes her story for the fifth time of "filming the scenery". Meredith calls Britani a "liar" and denies throwing up. Britani "come(s) clean" that her and Jared do have a "physical relationship". The ladies are confused by the relevancy to the recording situation. Only Heather feigns sympathy, playing it as a "big deal" for Mormons to admit to. Lisa and Bronwyn state they understand as well. Whitney understands but points out Britani is drinking "margheritas" and wearing "red lingeries". Bronwyn and Heather especially console Britani, but uses it to get their point across of Britani recording and breaking their trust. Britani apologizes to everyone and Meredith.

Mary confesses Robert Jr. has never met her parents. Mary's father has passed, so are Robert Sr.'s parents. When it's grandparents day at Robert Jr.'s school he would beg Mary to stay home. Mary is not close with her mother, stating that her mother was not present and selfish. Her mother could afford the groceries but did not buy any, therefore she makes sure that Robert Jr.'s "needs are met". Mary advises Bronwyn to always be truthful to her kids. Bronwyn is nervous to see Heather at Angie's party, especially after hearing from Lisa that Heather had told her what Angie confided with Heather about Lisa. Mary agrees, reiterates that Heather is "two faced" and tells Bronwyn about their ziplining argument. Bronwyn thinks Angie should know. Their conversation is interrupted by a landline Mary apparently still has.

Robert Jr. calls Mary and asks for money in Basketball, Bobbleheads and the Brow Girl. Mary informs a seemingly under the influence Robert Jr she's leaving for hip hop dance class with Angie in Whitney Drew and Her Clues. Robert asks for money, Mary ensures that the money is used for "good purposes". Mary wants Robert to get a job but he's not in a good place to do so right now.

In Kiss Kiss, Bangs Bangs, Mary has been having trouble with Robert Jr. and is throwing the brunch to take her mind off of things. Mary checks in with her son Robert Jr. before leaving to meet Meredith at an art gallery in Troop Salt Lake City. Robert Jr. did not answer the knocks on his door. Mary gets ready for Camp Day, she has not seen Robert Jr. for days. She misses him and states "I just want my baby back".

Mary has an emotional heart to heart with her son Robert Jr., who admits to self-medication. Robert is mixing Xanax and Adderall. Mary questions his motivation, Robert confesses he started using at 16, and it has been a slippery slope. Robert combined Xanax with acid, or molly, or "everything". A turning point for Robert was when he realized he took 10 30mg Oxycodone and could not feel anything. Mary is heart broken, she wants to help Robert, reminding him that she will do anything to help him, but unless he's willing to recognize his problems and wanting to receive the help she can't help him. Mary blames herself and thinks she "let him down somewhere". She did not know the extent of usage beyond edibles. Mary begs Robert to "don't die", Robert states that he "feels like a stain". Mary wants Robert to understand that she will not be able to go on if anything happens to him. Robert tells Mary "you're the only reason that I didn't kill myself". They cry, Mary tells Robert how much she loves him and extends her help.

Mary visits Angie in Rooms for Improvement, she lets herself in after Angie doesn't respond to the knocks. Angie, who did not notice Mary sitting in her living room, jumps when Mary greets her with "peekaboo". They work together to figure out the mechanism of opening a bottle of champagne. Mary opens up and confesses to Angie about what's been going on with her son Robert Jr.. Angie consoles a crying Mary. Mary reveals she tried to get pregnant for 4 years before finally achieving it with Robert Jr.. Mary questions whether had she gone wrong with Robert, and feels "responsible". Angie comforts Mary, reassuring her she is not to blame. Addiction is a disease that can happen to anyone, Angie draws parallel with her mother, whom she lost to alcoholism at a young age. Mary feels alone that she doesn't have a mother or grandmother to phone in for help, but she is determined to do whatever it takes to help her son. Mary is not sure about attending the Puerto Vallarta trip. Mary and Angie pinky promise to keep their conversation in confidence. Mary arrives in Puerta Vallarta in La VIDA Loca, she dropped Robert Jr. off at rehab the day before. Mary misses her son Robert in Smile, You're Being Recorded but finds solace that he's in rehab.

On the cast trip to Milwaukee in Basketball, Bobbleheads and the Brow Girl, Mary revealed her father was neighbors with Jeffrey Dahmer by stating: "He (Mary's dad) actually used to live a street away from Jeffery Dahmer. And every time he'd go to work he'd smell a smell. And he always said where's that smell coming from? And like maybe like a week later, they arrested Jeffery Dahmer. He saw the whole thing go down but I think he was just being nosy". Mary reiterated the story to bartenders at the Miller brewery in The Epiphany.

Mary was cut off by her mother, who she considered was her best friend. The ladies sympathize with Mary, Angie affirms Mary that she's not abandoning her.

When it's grandparents day at Robert Jr.'s school he would beg Mary to stay home. Mary is not close with her mother, stating that her mother was not present and selfish. Her mother could afford the groceries but did not buy any, therefore she makes sure that Robert Jr.'s "needs are met".
