Shocking News is the sixth episode in the first season and the sixth episode ever produced of The Real Housewives of Orange County. It premiered on April 25, 2006 , to an audience of N/A million live viewers.
Synopsis[]
On Bravotv.com: "Jeana struggles as the sibling rivalry escalates between Kara and Shane. Kara spends thousands on clothes for school while Shane receives a brand new car. In other parts of the community, Kimberly waits to hear from her doctor about a very serious health threat. She braces for the worst and ponders what she would miss if she didn't have more time with her son, daughter and husband. Slade's country bumpkin parents visit in their RV. They don't understand Slade's extravagant lifestyle and think his relationship with Jo is doomed. Later, Slade and Jo's date night turns ugly. Vicki goes back to Illinois for her high school reunion. While in her hometown, she visits her mother, who is unhappy with how Vicki has changed since moving to California. Lauri and her best friend, Lorelei, submit bikini photos in hopes of getting invited to a sexy pajama party at the Playboy mansion, where they would have to compete with 20-something girls."[1]

Lauri and her friend Lorelei take bikini pictures to submit for the Playboy party. Lauri and Lorelei get accepted, they get ready at a salon with Josh in tow. Lauri tells Ashley about the Playboy party, she and Lorelei had a blast.
Lauri goes on a family beach day, with Ashley arriving separately. Lauri's situationship Steve also attend. Lauri and Ashley had an argument the previous night regarding responsibilities. Ashley arrives with her friends and they have a good time.
Donn gets a job as vice president at a manufacturing company after 5 months of unemployment. However, the corporate headquarter is in Sacramento and Donn will need to fly up there 1-2 times a week. But he's okay with the hour flight. Donn and Vicki celebrate over dinner. Vicki wants to get another dog from the separation anxiety of Briana leaving for college. Donn thinks Vicki can maintain healthy relationship with the kids otherwise. Vicki is going to her 25 year high school reunion in Chicago. Donn says spouses are not invited but has went with Vicki before and he thinks the attendees are all "geeks".
Shane accepts the scholarship at Yavapai College, Jeana and Shane are looking over classes to register to. Jeana is sad Shane's leaving but is excited to enjoy the peace without Shane and Kara's bickering. Jeana says whatever Shane gets Kara wants it too. Shane states there's friendly competition between the siblings. Kara thinks Shane is the baby despite being the oldest and gets whatever he wants. Shane affirms it. Kara spend over 2 grand buying clothes. Jeana knows she spoils her kids.
Slade's parents visit from Alaska with their dog Kate. Kate does not like Jo, Slade thinks Jo is purposefully acting ditzy and is annoyed. They all go private furniture shopping, with the store closed for them. Slade's parents like Jo and wonder why she would voluntarily be tied down with a man with two kids at a young age. They hope the relationship lasts.
Kim is coping with the bad news of her biopsy. Kim plans a summer party at a hotel, The St. Regis for Bianca and her friends as a reward for getting good grades. The girls have a great time with Kim and the friend's mom Suzanne chaperoning. Kim and Suzanne have a drink at the bar while the girls prank call the lobby. The girls get in trouble and the hotel security is sent to the room, Kim and Suzanne have to return to resolve the situation. Kim made the girls apologize. Kim wishes her test results are clean so she can see Bianca grow up.
Shane says Kara and him would not talk for weeks when they say something each other don't like. But they'll hang out like nothing happened. Both siblings states they'll miss and love each other when Shane leaves for college, although they are not each other's favorite people.

Vicki meets Lisa at their mom's. Vicki stays in a hotel due to friction between her and her mom. Lisa states Vicki's mom thinks Vicki has became more image obsessed since moving to Orange County. Vicki just wants her mom to be proud of her. Vicki's mom, Joanne states out of all the kids Vicki and her were the closest. Joanne and Vicki drives around the neighborhood and reminisce. Vicki thinks unfortunately Joanne and her won't be able to replicate the close knit relationship they once had due to the physical distance. Vicki attends the reunion and had a good time, she hopes she impressed her classmates.
Jo and Slade go on a date. Slade makes comments of Jo's drinking, which annoys Jo. Slades asks Jo why she acts ditzy around his parents, which he does not like. Jo's friend Lindsey manages the restaurant they are at, and she sent over the biggest drink they have. They argue over the drink, with Jo playing around and Slade making serious comments about drinking. Jo goes to talk to Lindsey. Jo and Slade argue, Slade thinks Jo is immature and it's time to resume responsibilities. Jo reiterates the fact that she is 24 and wants to have fun. Jo wants Slade to loosen up, Slade comments on Jo going clubbing and talking to other guys. Jo is surprised by Slade's insecurity as the man she fell in love with is confident. Slade brings up the time Jo was drunk and forgot the proposal. Jo goes to confide in Lindsey, Lindsey invites Jo out to have a drink. Slade is mad when Jo tells him she's going out later. The couple seemingly breaks up, stating that "it's done". Slade leaves and Jo stays to drink at the bar. Jo breaks down. Jo states the engagement is off the next day.
Kim and Scott go to the oncologist for the results. They receive good news and they go out to celebrate with their friends.
