The sixteenth season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, premiered on March 9, 2025, and continues to star: Drew Sidora; while re-introducing, Phaedra Parks (after a six-season hiatus) and Porsha Williams (after a two-season hiatus), and introducing: Shamea Morton Mwangi, Brit Eady, Kelli Ferrell and Angela Oakley (as 'Housewives'). Former main cast member, Cynthia Bailey, will return in a recurring capacity (as a 'Friend of the Housewives').
Production
Production took place between May 2024 and August 2024.
In Mid-June 2024, Kenya Moore was suspended from filming pending the results of an investigation by the network into an incident where she displayed sexually explicit images of fellow cast member, Brittany Eady, at the grand opening of the former’s hair spa. On June 25, 2024, it was announced that Moore was departing the series and would not resume filming for the remainder of the sixteenth season. Moore's role in the season was reduced to a 'Guest' as a result of the incident. She was later replaced by former 'Housewife', Phaedra Parks.
Cast
On February 4, 2024, Kandi Burruss confirmed her departure from the series while talking to Variety Magazine on the red carpet. She stated that the reason for her exit was to "focus on other projects and spend more time with her family". She had been the longest-serving star on the show; having appeared for fourteen seasons.
On February 13, 2024, Porsha Williams announced her return to the series through an Instagram Live Video. In this video, she proudly professed that she’d be returning as Porsha Williams Guobadia; yet announced that she had filed for divorce only a few weeks later.
On February 23, 2024, Marlo Hampton announced her departure from the series in an article with People. She claimed that her contract expired at the conclusion of the previous season and that it had not been renewed which left her with the space that she wanted to participate in new projects and not "relive the past"; which placing a real emphasis on looking to the future.
On March 14, 2024, Executive Producer and Host, Andy Cohen, announced via his SiriusXM radio show that Sanya Richards-Ross would be leaving The Real Housewives of Atlanta (had not been asked back). Days later, she followed this up and confirmed that what had been said was true. She expressed how being a 'Peach Holder' was a "lot of work" and she’d use the break from filming to spend more time with her family and focus too on new creative projects.
On April 11, 2024, after the announcement of three exits from the main cast of the fifteenth season (which was half of the cast), Kenya Moore announced that she would be returning to the series through an Instagram Live Video; for her eleventh season in a main role.
In May 2024, Bravo announced the full cast of the sixteenth season. This followed-up the confirmation of Williams and Moore’s individual announcements that they’d be returning to the show. Additionally, it confirmed the return of Drew Sidora (for her fourth season). The only name missing from the list that was included in the previous season’s main cast and who’s status was unclear, was Shereé Whitfield; whose exit would mark a The Real Housewives first since she would be leaving a main role for the third time. This full cast list announced the additions of: Actress, Dancer and Singer, Shamea Morton (who had been in-and-out of 'Guest' roles in numerous previous seasons of the show), Insurance Agent, Brittany Eady, Chef and Restaurant Owner, Kelli Ferrell, and Entrepreneur, Angela Oakley. It also announced the return of Cynthia Bailey, who’d be returning after a two-season hiatus, but this time, in a recurring capacity (as a 'Friend of the Housewives').
On June 14, 2024, Moore was suspended indefinitely from the show after allegedly distributing explicit picture of new co-star, Eady. Moore would not finish filming the season. The network investigated the incident which prompted Moore’s official exit from the show, two weeks on from the incident (on June 26). While she had a major role in the initial stages of filming, she ended up being deemed as a 'Guest' during this season and would no longer hold a main title within the season.
As a result of Moore’s exit, on July 29, 2024, former 'Housewife', Phaedra Parks, was announced to be returning to the show (midway through production of the season) and would be credited in a full-time capacity; six seasons after her exit.
